Senior Project Planner
• Location: Hybrid – Manchester (3 days office-based)
• Rate: £450 – £500 per day (Outside IR35)
• Duration: 6 months+

Turner Lovell are recruiting on behalf of a global engineering organisation delivering major UK grid infrastructure projects for an experienced Senior Project Planner to support the early-stage development and delivery of a large-scale HVDC transmission scheme.
This role will focus on building and managing the EPC programme for a complex project involving HVDC cable systems and multiple onshore substations. The position will play a key role from early concept and baseline development through to construction delivery, working closely with international and UK-based stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planner with strong Primavera P6 and Earned Value Management experience who is confident building detailed programmes from first principles within a large, complex EPC environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed EPC project programmes using Primavera P6 for complex HVDC projects
- HVDCBuild the baseline schedule from early-stage concept through to construction and handover
- Implement and manage Earned Value Management (EVM) to monitor project performance
- Coordinate planning activities across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning functions
- Interface with internal teams, supply chain partners, and client stakeholders to ensure programme alignment
- Identify programme risks, constraints, and opportunities, providing mitigation strategies where required
- Produce regular progress updates, performance reports, and schedule analysis for senior stakeholders
- Support change control, delay analysis, and programme recovery activities where necessary
- Ensure planning outputs align with contractual requirements, including NEC frameworks
Requirements
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in project planning within infrastructure, energy, or major construction environments
- Proven experience planning EPC projects from early concept or baseline stage
Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 - Hands-on experience implementing Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Experience working on large-scale transmission, HVDC, substation, or major infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts and programme requirements
Experience working directly for Tier 1 contractors - Strong stakeholder coordination, communication, and organisational skills
- Degree-qualified in engineering, construction, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
