Offshore EHS Specialist
- Location: Offshore – Rotation: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off

Turner Lovell is seeking an experienced and proactive Offshore EHS Specialist to support one of our major clients in the offshore renewable energy sector. This position plays a critical role in the safe coordination and oversight of offshore activities, with a specific focus on creating, managing, and monitoring Permit to Work (PTW) systems and applications aboard a jack-up barge.
You will act as the primary EHS representative for a core team of 20+ personnel (plus external subcontractors and service teams), ensuring welfare standards are maintained and safe systems of work are implemented in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
This is a rotational position, 2 weeks offshore / 2 weeks off, working directly with the Principal Contractor (PC) and interfacing with various contractors operating on the offshore compound.
Key Responsibilities
- PTW Management: Lead the creation, coordination, and monitoring of all Permit to Work applications; ensure they are aligned with company and regulatory requirements.
- Safety Oversight: Provide visible EHS leadership and guidance to all offshore teams, promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Welfare Monitoring: Conduct regular welfare checks to ensure the physical and mental wellbeing of offshore personnel.
- Daily Interface: Act as a liaison between the core team, subcontractors, and the PC to ensure consistent EHS practices across the jack-up barge.
- Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits; follow up on findings to ensure close-out and continuous improvement.
- Incident Investigation: Support or lead investigations into near-misses or incidents using recognised root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., TopSet, TapRoot).
- Emergency Preparedness: Participate in and evaluate drills and emergency response readiness.
- Reporting & Analysis: Maintain accurate records of PTWs, observations, inspections, and EHS metrics; identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Induction & Training: Deliver safety inductions and toolbox talks to personnel and contractors as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience as an EHS Advisor or Specialist on offshore wind, oil & gas, or marine construction projects.
- Deep understanding of Permit to Work systems, with hands-on experience in creation and enforcement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to liaise effectively with multi-company teams in a high-risk environment.
- Relevant EHS qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma, IOSH, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with UK HSE regulations and offshore safety practices.
- Auditor training (ISO 45001 or similar) is beneficial.
- Incident investigation training (TopSet, TapRoot) is an advantage.
- Must be certified to work offshore (BOSIET, GWO, medical).
