HV Commissioning Engineer 

  • Location: Ireland
  • Rate: €800 per day
  • Start Date: November 2025
  • Contract Duration: 3 months (likely extension)

An experienced HV Commissioning Engineer is required for a key role on a cross-border HVDC interconnector project, overseeing the interface between the converter station and existing HV substation infrastructure. The position involves managing the commissioning activities in coordination with the national grid operator and supporting ongoing engineering works on site.

This role is ideal for professionals with proven experience in HVDC or complex substation environments and a strong understanding of protection systems, grid connections, and commissioning protocols.

Role Overview:

  • Lead commissioning activities at a major renewable energy project, integrating into an existing SF6 GIS substation
  • Interface with the national transmission operator for commissioning sign-offs and coordination
  • Supervise system installation, testing and energisation in alignment with project timelines
  • Support internal engineering teams with technical oversight and on-site troubleshooting
  • Contribute to documentation, reporting and red-lining of system changes as needed

Commissioning of:

  • CTs, VTs, transformers
  • Control, protection & interlocking systems
  • Auxiliary systems (battery chargers, UPS, LV panels)
  • Involvement in primary and secondary injection testing, fault simulations, and relay configuration validation

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong commissioning background in high-voltage substation or HVDC projects (132kV–400kV)
  • Experience working with national transmission system operators (e.g. authorisations equivalent to TP141 or EirGrid protocols)
  • Technical expertise in protection schemes, schematics, and grid connection standards
  • Ability to work independently on site and manage coordination across multiple contractors/stakeholders
  • Valid safety passport or relevant site certifications preferred
