Turner Lovell are currently recruiting for an international engineering consultancy specialised in providing condition assessments and maintenance services of energy infrastructure.  We are recruiting a freelance Civil Engineer to provide condition assessments and inspections of ageing substation infrastructure across Saudi Arabia. In this role, you will inspect concrete substation buildings, concrete foundations and steel structures and draft condition assessments. In addition, you will be recommending basic and advanced tests to recommend repair or replacement activities.

This is a 6-month assignment, with possibilities of extensions. You will travel to and from Saudi Arabia but be willing to work locally to carry our assessments and to discuss recommendations, training and knowledge transfer.

The Role:

  • Conduct condition assessments of existing concrete substation buildings, and develop remedial action plans for identified issues.
  • Carry out structural steel assessment and provide recommendations for repair or replacement.
  • Provide technical support and training to Operations and Maintenance staff on substation civil activities.
  • Review historic substation civil designs for existing substations and make future recommendations.

The Person:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience working on the condition assessment of concrete structures in electricity grid environments.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the construction, and maintenance of substation civil infrastructure.
  • Excellent awareness of wider industry best practices and owners technical standards/procedures for construction, operations & maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Passion for safety and promoting best practice in constructability to achieve long lasting asset lifecycles.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working on civil construction and inspection of grid assets in Europe or North America.
