Engineering Manager – Tender HVDC Projects

Turner Lovell is recruiting an Engineering Manager to lead the tender phase for large HVDC projects (including offshore platforms). Our client is a OEM who are expanding the team within the region. You will be the primary technical point of contact for the customer, coordinating global engineering inputs to deliver a compliant, competitive, and risk-aware bid—on time and to budget. This role can be based in UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt or Turnkey. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team and optimistic sales pipeline of HVDC projects in the region.
Key responsibilities
- Own the technical scope during tender: plan, schedule, quality, and cost.
- Act as the customer’s technical interface; drive clarifications and compliance.
- Define and specify HVDC equipment and interfaces (e.g., converter transformers, valves, reactors/filters, GIS/AIS, CT/VT, IED/protection panels, AC/DC auxiliaries); produce data sheets, BoMs, and specs.
- Prepare tender deliverables (SLDs, layouts, compliance matrices, assumptions/exceptions) and secure a clean handover to delivery teams.
- Coordinate control & protection, plant configuration, electrical design, and system/performance studies to optimise safety, reliability, installability, and O&M.
- Lead design trade-offs and target-costing; manage risks, issues, and change.
- Ensure alignment with standards and requirements (IEC/IEEE; cybersecurity such as IEC 62351)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Master’s a plus).
- 10+ years in HVDC/grid solution integration; proven multi-disciplinary tender leadership.
- Strong grasp of C&P hardware, plant configuration, electrical design, and system/performance studies.
- Excellent stakeholder and customer management; clear communicator.
- Fluent in English (Arabic an advantage); willing to travel ~20% internationally.
